About this tour
On the way to the Kruger National Park we pass through the scenic Mpumalanga area, then spend 2 nights in the famous game reserve spotting the magnificent wildlife of Africa.
Included: two meals a day, starting with dinner on day 1, and all entrance fees and conservation fees. There is accommodation where 3 people may share.
What to bring: anti-malaria tablets (taken before visiting the Kruger area), a warm jacket for evening drives, cool casual lightweight clothing, walking shoes, hat, sunglasses, camera and binoculars, swimming costume and suntan lotion.
What we will do
Day 1. Your journey eastward takes you across the rolling grasslands of the Highveld towards the majestic eastern Drakensberg Mountains. Drive through the well-known trout fishing towns of Belfast, Dullstroom and Lydenburg and begin the climb over the famous Long Tom Pass, among the finest scenery in the country. From over 2,000 metres the road winds down through cool forests of pine and eucalyptus to the picturesque town of Sabie. After lunch, a scenic drive to the Kruger National Park via Hazyview. Overnight in the park with a traditional South African braai (barbecue).
Day 2. Early coffee and rusks before the excitement begins, with camera at the ready, hoping to find lion and other species such as giraffe, elephant, rhino, zebra and antelope. We have a bush brunch at a waterhole or campsite, then arrive at the rest camp for dinner and overnight. As the sun sets, sip a sundowner while anticipating your optional spotlight night drive in an open vehicle with a park ranger, searching for the various nocturnal animals.
Day 3. Another early wake-up call before sunrise, then game viewing and a chance to find the elusive animals you have missed. After breakfast and some final photos it is time to leave the park and head for Johannesburg, arriving at about 17:00.
