The Pilanesberg National Park is in the North West province, 160 km northwest of Johannesburg, in an eroded volcano that is more than a million years old and one of the largest of its kind in the world.
We make a very early departure (05:30) from your hotel and head north through fertile valleys that give way to the mighty Magaliesberg mountain range. The early start means we arrive as the gates open, with maximum time to view game and try to find the elusive nocturnal animals.
The game drive is done in our own vehicle with a registered tourist guide, for maximum viewing pleasure. Lunch is taken at the Pilanesberg centre, where we take a break over the heat of the day. We then enter the park again for an afternoon drive, leaving around 15:00.
